BLOG SPOT: May Road Safety Tip
Drive with your headlights on at all times. With winter approaching and the nights getting longer this is a habit all South African should begin to learn. Even though the advantages of this practice have been proven, a lot of drivers refuse to use their headlights for different reasons.
One reason is the fact that on a large proportion of older vehicles the headlights stay on when the vehicle is switched off and it is easy to forget the vehicle lights on during daytime. This can be overcome by a minor modification by a qualified auto-electrician. Another reason is the fact that some drivers believe that the battery of the vehicle will lose its power or may be damaged if the lights are used continuously. It is however a fact that the lights of the vehicle are powered by the alternator during driving. If the alternator is in a good working condition, the battery of the vehicle will not be affected at all.
It is therefore sensible to increase your visibility at all times, whether you are walking cycling or driving. This is as it is much easier to avoid an object that you can see clearly. Being visible therefore reduces the risk of collisions and may in fact save your life
